Tons of snow in the mountains of West Virginia

Snowshoe Mountain Resort celebrated Thanksgiving by having 20 trails open and over 50 acres of terrain for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy.  Easily the best early season conditions ever in the resort’s 35-year history.  Looking around the resorts there is lots and lots of snow as Timberline Resort will see its first skiers and snowboarders on December 4, followed by Canaan Valley and Winterplace on December 12. There is an outside chance some of the resorts will open sooner.

Since the end of October Mother Nature has dropped over five-feet of snow throughout the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia. Now for the good news, cold air should remain in the region for the foreseeable future, allowing snowmaking to continue around the clock at all of the resorts. With all that snow, this is one of the best early season conditions on record, and puts West Virginia resorts in great shape for the remainder of the season.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are already in high gear as the natural snowfall has allowed White Grass Touring Center and Elk River Touring to open their nordic trails, also with awesome conditions.
